Elite Simulator and Conflicting Localizer Frequencies

At times, when dialing in a localizer frequency, Elite Simulator will find that this particular frequency is shared by more than just one localizer.  An example is the Monterey Localizers IMRY and IMTB.  Both use the same frequency at the same airport, but are different transmitters.  Elite Simulator needs to know which one you want dialed in.

Until resolved, the pilot will see a flag on their VOR indicator or their HSI.

As show above, the Monterey airport has a localizer/DME (IMTB) transmitting at 110.7.  This is for the LOC/DME 28L approach.

Below, you will see that another transmitter (IMRY) is also using 110.7.  This is for the ILS 10R approach.

Elite Simulator needs to know which transmitter the pilot is going to be using for their approach.  One way of identifying this frequency conflict is to look at the flag on the HSI or VOR indicator (as shown below).  Also, no morse code identifier will play when you try and 'ident' in this error situation.

The HSI above is showing a NAV flag with 110.7 dialed into NAV-1

Another way of identifying this problem is for the instructor to look on the left side of the Map display.

Here, you will see that IMTB and IMRY are both sharing the same frequency 110.7.  To fix this problem, the instructor needs to select one of these transmitters for the student to get valid readings from their VOR indicator or their HSI during their approach.

To do this, the instructor needs to:

  1. Hold down the ALT key
  2. Press the 'J' key

At this point, the cursor will change to an 'x' with a small circle below it.  Place the 'x' on the localizer transmitter in the map display that you want to deselect.

Shown on the right is the cursor after pressing the ALT-J combination.  By moving the mouse pointer 'x' over MRY or MTB and then clicking one or the other on the map display, you will be deselect that particular transmitter.

After the appropriate transmitter is deselected, the Multiple LOCs error (as shown above) will disappear and the localizer will begin transmitting its morse code when identing.

You can also press ALT-J and reselect the localizer transmitter and/or deselect the currently active one.  It's up to you.
